چکیده
The prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection may vary with the animal species, being higher in small ruminants and pigs, and this might have consequences for food safety. The objective of this study was to evaluate the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection in sheep, goats and pigs from Cluj County (central Romania). A number of 239 sheep, 274 goats and 434 pigs, raised in backyard system, were tested in order to identify the anti-T. gondii antibodies (IgG type) using ELISA technique. The highest seroprevalence of T. gondii antibodies was obtained in sheep 57.5% (138/239) followed by pigs 43.1% (187/434) and goats 32.5% (89/274). Our results showed that the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection is high in backyard systems in Cluj County, being an important source of infection for humans from this area.

Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular protozoan parasite that causes toxoplasmosis and is of medical importance in pregnant women and immunosuppressed patients. In recent years, many methods have been developed for the detection of infection caused by this parasite; however, most of the developed methods are not adequately sensitive. The dense granular antigen (GRA) ...
